butters & carrier oils

are thicker, moisturizing oils that are used to naturally nourish hair and skin, these oils are generally made from extraction of oil from nuts and seeds, and have been used around the world since ancient times

essential oils

are lighter, more aromatic based oils with more specific benefits, unique spiritual histories, and are made from herbs, flowers, roots, resins, and trees

butters & Carrier oils

shea butter traditionally made in west africa, shea nut trees grow in 21 african countries, PSL uses shea buter from ghana, provides versatile moisture, repairs damaged skin, softens and seals moisture into hair, healing, anti aging, anti redness

 

jojoba oil
made from a plant indigenous to the SW united states and northern mexico, originally used by the tohono o’odham, seals moisture into skin & hair, cleansing and strengthening, contains vitamins A,E, and D, increases softness and shine, protects against sun damage

 

avocado oil
made from avocado seed and with origins in central and south america tracing back to the aztecs, avocado oil deeply nourishes without weighing down hair or skin, high in vitamins, easily absorbed by skin, strengthens and heals damaged hair

 

olive oil
originally used by the ancient greeks, deep conditioning and nourishing for hair, cleansing, best used on thick (type 3/4) hair, traps in water and vitamins, safe for body but not for use on face !

cocoa butter
made from the same plant that gives us chocolate, traditionally made in west africa, central america, and the caribbean, cocoa butter soothes skin, reduces redness and swelling, softens skin, anti inflammatory, and can restore natural oils & vitamins to the body

 

coconut oil
has been used for moisture and medicine around the world throughout time, quickly absorbed into skin, scalp soothing, moisturizing, heals wounds and burns, very commonly used

 

moringa oil
originally from india, the entire plant has been traditionally used in ayurvedic medicine, fights wrinkles, inflammation, and acne, strengthens hair, soothes scalp, heals cuts, should be left in thick hair types (3b-4c) and rinsed out of thin hair types (1a-3a), keeps moisture in

 

sweet almond oil originally from the mediterranean, valued in both christianity and ayurvedic medicine, smoothes skin & hair, helps fight rashes, eczema and psoriasis, fights headaches, helps with breakage and hair loss

mango butter
is made from the seed of the mango, a generally newer cosmetic oil with roots in ayuvedic and south east asian healing and medicine, mango butter brightens, smoothes, and increases elasticity in skin, strengthens hair by reducing breakage, removes impurities, and deposits vitamins

 

castor oil
traditionally made in east africa and jamaica (PSL uses jamaican) thickens and promotes growth in hair, tightens curls, soothes scalp, healing for wounds, antinflammatory, thin hair should use on ends of strand, thick hair should use at base/root of strand

 

argan oil
‘liquid gold,’ made from a moroccan tree once referred to as the ‘tree of life,” increases shine & growth in hair, promotes cellular growth, antiarthritis, wound & skin healing, softens hair & skin, soothes scalp
